ABOUT SECURITY ABSTRACT COMPANY

Security Abstract Company was established in 1898 and has been in continuous operation since that time.

Abstracts are prepared pursuant to the latest standards of the Iowa State Bar Association and the Iowa Land Title Association and are backed by a comprehensive errors and omissions policy covering every transaction. Security Abstract Company maintains the only complete in-house set of tract indices (from the first territorial land grants in the 1830’s to the current date) for Johnson County.

In addition, the company maintains an in-house computerized name indices. Security Abstract Company is a member of the Iowa Land Title Association, the American Land Title Association, and the Iowa Title Guaranty Program.

Craig Willis and Nancy Willis purchased the business in 1977, and worked diligently to build the company to its current standing. In 2019, the partners of Meardon, Sueppel & Downer P.L.C. purchased the business and are proud to carry on the longstanding tradition of excellence built and maintained by their predecessors.

In 2019, the University of Iowa awarded Craig and Nancy Willis with the Distinguished Alumni Hickerson Recognition Award. This award is granted to graduates or former students for outstanding contributions to the University of Iowa.

Both Security Abstract Company and Meardon, Sueppel & Downer have received the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce Roots Award

Past awards include the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award, the Russell D. Slade Volunteerism Award, the Iowa City Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award.
